The rehabilitation and expansion of capacity of the treatment plant Colque Rancho in Punata allow reuse of treated water

Punata soon will have a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) totally modified so that it is suitable for reuse in irrigation of plantations of tall stem and recreational green areas.

This WWTP is possible thanks to the efforts of the Autonomous Municipal Government Punata and financing of the Swedish Embassy through the NODE-II project that is running the SNV, who has been seen as a priority management sanitation and drinking water in the municipality.

Thus, this Saturday May 21 the mayor of the municipality, Jose Antonio Gonzales, inaugurated the start of construction of this important project, accompanied by his technical team, representatives of SNV and representatives of the AGUATUYA Foundation, responsible for enlargement and rehabilitation of the WWTP.

"Today, thanks to the AGUATUYA Foundation and the Swedish cooperation will improve plant incorporating this technology to treat water so that people stay no longer defiling" said Mayor Punata during the ceremony.

According to the Mayor Gonzales, this is one of the "most important works we are facing in this effort because we will ensure that in the next 20 to 30 years will have no problems with the treatment of wastewater."

He stressed that the water coming out of the plant will be used by surrounding communities for irrigation and water system will have 365 days a year. "This sector was once a salty ground and produced nothing; but for 20 years it has gradually become the most important of the municipality with the production of alfalfa and corn silage center now, "said the authority.

The communities that benefit from this project are Laguna Sultiy, Colque Rancho, Chirusi Center, Chirusi Alto, Chirusi Rosario and Tajamar B.

"From any point you see, this book is great because it will solve many problems the city center with sewage and this area with crop irrigation," concluded the Mayor.

The Executive Director of the Foundation AGUATUYA, Renato Montoya, stressed the will of the Municipal Government of Punata, the Embassy of Sweden and the SNV and asked all work together to make the most of the treated water for the benefit of the whole community.

The waters of the stabilization ponds currently has Colque Rancho plant produce bad odors and flow into the river Sulti causing river pollution.

Thanks to the initiative of GAM Punata, the support of the Embassy of Sweden and AGUATUYA will expand and rehabilitate Treatment Plant benefiting more than 26,000.

The technology used is a friendly technology environment, based on a fully automated pretreatment, upflow anaerobic biorectores that decompose organic matter and impoundment in addition to treatment.
